This is MastMates.

MastMates is a two-part compound that molds itself exactly to the geometry between mast and collar as you insert it — then cures into a firm, elastic ring that grips the mast securely all the way around.

Shore hardness A85 gives it enough rigidity to absorb lateral forces, and enough elasticity to let the mast move slightly under load without damaging the bond. No creaking, no wobble, no water.

Taking the mast out? MastMates removes cleanly — no sanding, no chiseling, no residue. The compound bonds to the mast, not to the collar.

It's this simple.

No tools. No specialist. Done in 15 minutes.

Step 01
Prepare
Clean the mast collar and measure out equal amounts of component A and B.
Step 02
Knead
Take equal amounts of A and B. Knead intensely for 1 minute until the color is uniform.
Step 03
Insert
Apply the compound into the mast collar and insert the mast. MastMates adapts automatically.

Holds where it matters.

MastMates distributes force evenly across the entire circumference of the mast collar — instead of concentrating it at single points like wedges do. The result: less wear, less noise, more stability.

  • Even force distribution around the mast
  • Dampens vibration and knocking noises
  • Bonds to the mast — not to the structure
  • Clean, residue-free removal

Mast out. Compound too.

When the mast is lifted out by crane at the end of the season, MastMates stays exactly where it belongs — on the mast. Not in the collar, not in the boat, not stuck somewhere in between. Mast out, compound off, done.

  • Bonds to the mast — not to the mast collar
  • Crane lifts the mast — the compound comes along automatically
  • No sanding, no chiseling, no residue
  • Mast collar stays clean for next season

Who's behind MastMates

MastMates exists because we'd had enough of wedges ourselves. As sailors, we know the problem firsthand — so we're building the solution we wished we'd had.

Frequently asked questions

MastMates is a kneadable compound that molds itself to the individual geometry between mast and collar as you insert it — regardless of boat size or collar shape.

Yes. MastMates works with GRP, aluminum, and wood — fully compatible with all common mast materials.

15 minutes, after which the mast is securely fixed and ready.

No. Knead component A and B 1:1, apply into the collar, insert the mast — done.

Yes, without residue. The compound bonds to the mast, not the collar — it comes off automatically when the mast is lifted out.
